CHARLOTTE, N.C. —In a breakout performance that few saw coming, 28-year-old PGA Tour rookie Kristoffer Reitan of Norway fired a steady 2-under 69 in the final round to win the 2026 Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club by two strokes. Reitan finished at 15-under 269, becoming just the second Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour after Viktor Hovland.
Reitan, who entered the week as one of the last men in the field, delivered rounds of 66-70-64-69. His third-round 64 vaulted him into contention, just one shot off the lead held by Alex Fitzpatrick.
On Sunday, as several contenders faltered, Reitan stayed composed on Quail Hollow’s demanding layout. He birdied the par-4 14th and par-5 15th to build a cushion, then navigated the closing holes with clutch par saves and a final two-putt par on 18.
Rickie Fowler and Nicolai Hojgaard both finished at 13-under 271 to share second place. Fowler mounted a late charge, but Reitan’s ball-striking and poise under pressure proved decisive. The victory earned Reitan $3.6 million and his first PGA Tour title in just his 15th start.
The win caps a remarkable journey for the Norwegian, who once chose golf over a promising soccer career as a youth. He has two prior victories on the DP World Tour (including the 2025 Belgian Open) but has spoken openly about nearly quitting professional golf around 2022 to pursue content creation on YouTube. Instead, he persisted, earned his PGA Tour card, and now stands as a champion.
“It’s going to be a very, very fun year,” Reitan said afterward, reflecting on the breakthrough moment.
The Truist Championship, a signature event with a strong field at the iconic Quail Hollow venue, has now produced first-time winners including Fowler, Rory McIlroy, and Max Homa in past editions. Reitan’s triumph adds another unexpected name to that list, highlighting the depth and unpredictability of modern professional golf.
With this victory, Reitan not only secures a significant payday and FedEx Cup points but also stamps his arrival as a potential rising international star on the PGA Tour. Fans and analysts alike will be watching to see how this momentum carries him through the rest of the season. Is he the real deal or a supernova?
