Tournament History
The Bank of Utah Championship debuted on the PGA Tour in October 2024 as the Black Desert Championship, restoring a full Tour event to Utah for the first time in more than 60 years.
It is played at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, in the Greater Zion region of southern Utah, on a championship course routed through an old lava field against red-rock cliffs. The layout is the final design of Tom Weiskopf, who died in 2022.
Staged as part of the FedExCup Fall series, the inaugural event drew strong reviews from players for the setting and the course. Matt McCarty won the 2024 tournament in just his third PGA Tour start, closing at 23-under 261 to beat Stephan Jager by three strokes for his first Tour victory. That aggregate remains the tournament record.
In July 2025 the Ogden-based Bank of Utah was named title sponsor under a deal running through 2027, and the event was renamed the Bank of Utah Championship. The purse has been set at $6 million.
Michael Brennan captured the 2025 title on a sponsor’s exemption, also in only his third Tour start and his first as a professional. The former Wake Forest player finished at 22-under 262 and won by four strokes over Rico Hoey, taking the $1.08 million first prize.
The championship continues as an October FedExCup Fall event at Black Desert, which also hosts an LPGA tournament.
