HISTORY
The Senior PGA Championship is the oldest tournament on the senior circuit. The championship was born in 1937 on the grounds of another of golf’s majors, at the invitation of one of the game’s greatest players.
It was established in the fall of 1937 to provide an opportunity to PGA members ages 50 and over to compete with their peers. The purse was $2,000.
At the suggestion of renowned amateur Bobby Jones, the inaugural Senior PGA Championship was played at Augusta National Golf Club for its first two editions. To find better weather conditions, the event moved to Florida in 1940 and was played in various cities in the Sunshine State through 2000, highlighted by two multi-decade runs at PGA National (1945-73 and 1982-2000).
Beginning in 2001, the tournament moved to some of the great golf courses in the United States.
Over the years, the Sr PGA champions have included some of the biggest legends of the game, such as Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, and Tom Watson.

THE COURSE
Designed by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus in association with Tony Jacklin, The Concession Golf Club opened in 2006 and is a Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
For the Senior PGA Championship, the course will play to a par of 72 and stretch out to just under 7,000 yards (6,936 to be exact).
The Concession Golf Club pays tribute to Nicklaus’ extraordinary display of sportsmanship to English golfer Jacklin during the 1969 Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale. Nicklaus conceded a 2-foot putt to Jacklin to halve their match, which resulted in the first-ever tie in the history of the Ryder Cup.
The Concession has been the setting for prestigious golf tournaments such as the 2021 PGA Tour Workday World Golf Championships, won by Collin Morikawa.
Immersed in a secluded and awe-inspiring natural environment, adorned with ancient oak trees and expansive water features, this championship layout boasts a harmonious blend of native flora and fauna, combined with complex putting surfaces that demand players’ complete skill and focus.
The Concession was named Golf Digest’s “Best New Private Course in America” following its 2006 debut and is consistently ranked as a top-10 Florida course.
