Bernhard Langer Wins Oasis Championship

Bernhard Langer closed with a 7-under 65 on Sunday at The Old Course at Broken Sound to claim victory at the Oasis Championship.

The 61-year old German finished his final day in Boca Raton, Florida with a clean card comprised of 11 pars and seven birdies en route to a three-day total of 19-under par 197, five shots clear of Marco Dawson.

With his 39th Champions Tour victory, Langer took home $255,000, breaking Hale Irwin’s career earnings record on the over-50 tour with $27,196,504.

“There’s many things to celebrate. It means a great deal to win in front of your home crowd, your family, your friends,” said Langer.

“Winning at home is always extremely special, no doubt about it. It made it more special having my first win with my daughter Jackie, who’s only caddied three times for me.”

Langer, who closed to within six of Irwin’s record 45 tour wins, has won each season he’s played on the Champions Tour (a record 13 straight).

“The key to success is a lot of things. You’ve got to be healthy, otherwise you can’t play, and a lot of guys at age 61 aren’t healthy anymore,” said Langer.

“They had this operation or that operation or a knee replacement or a hip replacement or whatever it may be. So I’ve been fortunate enough not to have any major surgeries so far besides my thumb in 2011, so that’s key.”
