The WGC-HSBC Champions, scheduled for Oct. 27-30 in Shanghai, has been canceled for the third straight year due to the communist country’s oppressive COVID-19 restrictions.

The PGA Tour which has been under fire for its relationship with the brutal communist nation used the excuse of COVID, but insiders say the tour is “done with China.”

Rory McIlroy remains the most recent champion of the tournament from his win back in 2019.

“We have worked with all Tours, as well as the China Golf Association, on the viability of hosting the WGC-HSBC Champions this fall, but unfortunately the logistical implications forced the difficult decision to cancel the event,” PGA Tour senior vice president, international, Christian Hardy said in a statement.

“We are thankful for HSBC’s partnership during these trying times as we continue to navigate the changing COVID-19 climate.”

The Bermuda Championship will now be played as a stand-alone event. It will reward the full 500 FedEx Cup points to the winner, with a purse totaling $6.5 million.

It will be played opposite the big-money LIV Golf Championship at Doral.
