After back-to-back birdies on hole Nos. 11 and 12, Bryson DeChambeau was bogey-free and appeared to be in full control of the Memorial Tournament at 17 under par.
The 24-year old struggled down the stretch, though, posting a pair of late bogeys, to sign for a 71 and drop into a tie with Byeong-Hun An and Kyle Stanley at 15 under.
On the first playoff hole (No. 18), DeChambeau and An both parred to extend the overtime, while Stanley was knocked out with a bogey.
DeChambeau then drained a 12-footer for birdie on the next go-round of 18 to claim his second career PGA Tour victory.
The California native finished his final day at Muirfield Village with three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars.
The win earned DeChambeau $1,602,000 and 500 FedExCup points, which moves him to No. 4 in the standings behind only Justin Thomas (No. 1), Justin Rose (2) and Jason Day (3). The young American also picked up 70 Official World Golf Rankings points to move inside the top 25, and also into contention for a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Stanley and An, meanwhile, each took home a check for $783,200, along with 245 FedEx points and 35 OWGR points.
