Rory McIlroy isn’t resting on his laurels after finally completing the career Grand Slam with his dramatic 2025 Masters playoff victory over Justin Rose.
The Northern Irish superstar, now armed with five major titles and a spot among golf’s most exclusive club, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods, has set his sights even higher.
In recent comments, McIlroy opened up about his ambitious next chapter, revealing that a double Grand Slam (winning each of the four majors at least twice) is very much on his radar.
“I’ve got the five majors,” McIlroy said on the podcast Scrambled Eggs. “I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that I could win every major twice, which would be a really cool thing to win the grand slam twice.”
The 36-year-old’s triumph at Augusta National last April ended an 11-year major drought and delivered the elusive green jacket on his 11th attempt — the longest wait among the six men who’ve achieved the feat.
That historic win has recalibrated his mindset, shifting focus from checking off boxes to building an even greater legacy.
McIlroy’s path to a double would require at least three more majors: another Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. He’s already a two-time PGA champion (2012, 2014), but the others sit at one apiece. With his game firing on all cylinders, highlighted by strong showings across tours following his win at Augusta in 2025, the idea feels less like fantasy and more like a bold but believable target.
Only Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have completed the Grand Slam multiple times – each completing the honor three times, making McIlroy’s aspiration one of the most audacious endgames in the sport.
As the 2026 season ramps up, with the Masters just weeks away, all eyes will be on whether the newly-minted Grand Slam champion can start stacking those second majors and chase golf immortality twice over.
