With particular attention paid to research tracking player’s eyes prior to the putting stroke, Ping has introduced three mallet models of the Scottsdale TEC putters, each with a white finish and two having an onset shaft.

Ping is quick to point out the new onset design of the TEC models does not make them zero torque in the sense of that term being by other putter makers. Taking a page out of Ping putter designs for the past six decades, they say it is better to have the center of gravity behind the shaft so that it is “pulled through” by the stroke which means more stability and less twisting if the impact is off center.
This contrasts with typical zero torque build where the shaft line passes through the center of gravity in an effort to maintain the face square to the putting stroke arc throughout.
Having the center of gravity behind the shaft also means weighting to complement different stroke types is possible; the Ally Blue for straight strokes, the Ketsch for strokes with a slight arc and the Hayden for blade-like straight arc.
As PING CEO & President John K. Solheim put it, “My grandfather was a firm believer in the role the CG position plays in the performance of a putter. We continue to apply that philosophy today in all our putter designs. Ensuring the proper CG placement relative to the shaft axis is critical to performance. Pulling the CG provides more stability through the stroke and helps keep putts on line and rolling into the hole.”
Ping’s extensive research in how a player’s eyes act during the putt alignment process resulted in the Eye Q markings on the top of the putter head. There is black dot for a clear point of focus and a distinctive alignment line that “helps naturally quiet the player’s eyes before the stroke, making it easier to center and maintain a stable gaze at the critical moment.”
The PEBAX polymer face is very lightweight which helps move the center of gravity rearwards plus it has a very high rebound. For the record, and there will be a written exam later, TEC stands for Tour Elevated Concepts plus for those liking counter balanced weighting there is a longer shaft (37.75”) Ally Blue Onset CB.
