After eight matches on Saturday – four in the morning and four in the afternoon, Europe is now deadlocked with the United States at the 2023 Solheim Cup.

Europe entered Saturday morning’s foursomes down two points, 5-3, and after playing to a split, the U.S. remained two clear, 7-5.

The Euros, though, bounced back in the afternoon foursome matches, winning 3-1.

Now deadlocked at 8-8, the 2023 Solheim Cup will be decided by the 12 singles matches on Sunday, with Europe looking for an unprecedented third straight cup victory. As reigning champs, the Europeans need six points to retain the cup (ties go to the winner) while the U.S. requires six and a half to take home the cup.

“I’m out of words, but we have to remember we are not there yet, there are still twelve points up for grabs tomorrow,” said Europe captain Suzann Pettersen.

“We made quite a comeback, now we are tied and we’ll put it in fifth gear and keep going. If you look at how we started after yesterday’s morning, we’ve come a long way.”

The Blue and Gold clinched the afternoon victory when home hero Carlota Ciganda, playing alongside rookie Linn Grant, defeated Danielle Kang and Lilia Vu, 2 and 1.

The Spaniard made a clutch birdie for a win on the 16th hole and remains the only player with a perfect record (3-0-0).

In earlier afternoon matches, Leona Maguire and Charley Hull cruised to a 4 and 3 win over Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing, with Maguire the main star.

“Suzann was pretty clear on what our job was today, so mission accomplished,” Maguire said. “One more day to give it our best shot and I think that’s the great thing about this team, there’s so much fight in this team. We’ve never given up.”

The Americans lone point in the afternoon came from the duo of Cheyenne Knight and Angel Yin, who claimed a 2 up victory against Caroline Hedwall and Anna Nordqvist, one of the vice captains for Europe.

Finally, Emily Pedersen teamed up with Madelene Sagstrom for a 2 and 1 victory over Rose Zhang and Andrea Lee.
