After the Official World Golf Rankings denied the LIV Golf League’s request for ranking points, several players on the breakaway circuit proposed a simple solution relative to qualifying for majors: create an exemption path specifically for LIV, similar what they do for the PGA Tour, e.g. top 5 or 10 on league’s points list.

According to a report at ESPN, Fred Ridley, the chairman of Augusta National Golf Club told reporters in Australia last week that the exclusive golf club will continue its collusion with the PGA Tour, and will not be making any changes to its criteria for the 2024 Masters, set for April 11-14.

“As you recall last year, there was some speculation as to whether or not we would invite LIV golfers, and we stayed true to our qualification criteria and we invited everyone who was eligible,” said Ridley, during the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

“And so, while we do not at this time anticipate making any changes in 2024, you know, we do always look at them and we will continue to do that. I would just answer by saying that, you know, that our qualifications are very much dynamic, and we adjust to what we feel is the best interests of the tournament representing the best players in the world, so we always look at that.”

Because the LIV Golf League receives no world-ranking points, Talor Gooch, who won three times this season – en route to claiming the breakaway tour’s season-long points title, is laughably ranked No. 214. Thus, as it currently stands, the Oklahoma native is not eligible to play in a single major in 2024 which is an absolute travesty. (When Gooch joined the LIV Golf circuit, he was ranked No. 30.)
