History

The Genesis Championship formation in 2024 saw two events come together as the DP World Tour’s Korea Championship and the KPGA Tour’s Genesis Championship merged to become the Genesis Championship, co-sanctioned by both tours.

The field is comprised of 90 DP World Tour players and 30 KPGA Tour players, with the co-sanctioned event building on the strategic alliance that was agreed between the two Tours in May 2023, which expanded the pathway for KPGA Tour players to play on the DP World Tour.

Byeong Hun An won the inaugural edition at Jack Nicklaus GC Korea, posting a 17 under, then edging Tom Kim in overtime to claim victory.

The event moved from the Nicklaus signature course to Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in 2025.

The tournament is title sponsored by Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle division of Hyundai Motor Group. The Korean car maker also headlines the European tour’s Genesis Scottish Open, contested annually the week ahead of the British Open Championship, as well as the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational at iconic Riviera, hosted by Tiger Woods.

The DP World Tour returns to South Korea this week for the Genesis Championship at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club, one of the country’s most established championship venues.

Located in Cheonan, roughly 90 minutes south of Seoul, the Perry Dye-designed layout opened in 1993 and has a distinguished tournament history, having hosted the Korea Open 22 times. Past winners include Rickie Fowler, Vijay Singh, John Daly and Y.E. Yang.

Playing to a par 71 at 7,367 yards for this week’s championship, Woo Jeong Hills is a traditional, tree-lined parkland course featuring dramatic elevation changes, undulating fairways, strategically positioned bunkers and 12 water hazards. Its challenging green complexes underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2025.

The signature hole is the spectacular par-3 13th, featuring an island green reminiscent of the famous 17th at TPC Sawgrass. The closing stretch presents another stern examination, particularly the 494-yard par-4 17th and 570-yard par-5 finishing hole, where water and bunkering create opportunities for late drama.

While the relatively generous fairways reward aggressive driving, Woo Jeong Hills demands precise approach shots and exceptional distance control, particularly when negotiating its elevated, heavily contoured greens.

South Korea’s Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im headline a strong international field for this week’s $4 million Genesis Championship at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.

Kim, a four-time PGA Tour winner and world No. 14, is the highest-ranked player in the field and returns home following a career-best season that included three runner-up finishes. Im, a two-time PGA Tour winner and the 2019 Genesis champion, will also enjoy plenty of hometown support.

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, winner of the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, brings major championship pedigree to the field, while former LIV Golf standout Eugenio Chacarra arrives as arguably the hottest player in the tournament. The 26-year-old Spaniard has won three times on the DP World Tour this season, including last week’s DP World India Championship, and leads the Race to Dubai standings.

South Africa’s Casey Jarvis, another multiple winner this season, Belgian Thomas Detry, and defending champion Junghwan Lee add further depth to the 124-player field.

The tournament also serves as the final regular season stop before the DP World Tour playoffs, with Race to Dubai points and 2027 playing privileges on the line.
