Ping has put a lot of effort into the new G740 irons targeted at those players with slower swing speeds but still wanting to add distance to their game. Designed with high launch weighting, helping longer flight and green-holding descent angles, the G740s are still a forgiving club.

Noticeable right away are the generous shaft offset and wide sole with two grinds or cambers that contribute to the consistency all players seek.

For those not familiar with Ping’s Power Spec lofts that are an option to boost distance or decrease spin to hit a desired trajectory window. Ping says, “This custom-designed loft configuration delivers a calculated power boost without sacrificing the integrity of the club’s design.”

Retro Spec lofts are generally 2° weaker than stock or standard lofts.

According to John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President, “The G740 iron represents our return to the super-game-improvement-iron category in a more deliberate way. The visibly wider sole and larger clubhead result in the most forgiving iron in our current lineup. At the same time, it’s our longest iron. The target golfer for the G740 iron needs more consistency in their game, and the larger face helps ensure better results from inconsistent strikes, leading to faster speed and more forgiveness. Golfers who fit into the G740 iron will be very pleased with its performance and enjoy the benefits of hitting more greens.”
