Jackson Koivun captured his first PGA Tour title in dramatic fashion, holding off world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to win the 3M Open by three strokes on Sunday at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

The 21-year-old American closed with a bogey-free 5-under 66 for a tournament-record 25-under 259 total. Scheffler surged with an 8-under 63 to finish at 22-under, while Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips, and Denny McCarthy tied for third at 20-under.

Koivun, a former Auburn All-American who helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA championship just weeks earlier, earned the victory in only his third start as a professional (and 13th overall PGA Tour appearance, including 10 as an amateur). He turned pro recently after the U.S. Open and had previously missed the cut at the John Deere Classic before a T10 at the ISCO Championship, an opposite field event.

Koivun took a three-shot lead into the final round after a scintillating 10-under 61 on Saturday that included a tournament-record back-nine 28 featuring two eagles. On a hot 97-degree afternoon, Koivun birdied three of his first six holes to stretch his advantage, then stayed steady as Scheffler made a late charge with consecutive birdies on the back nine. Koivun played the final 36 holes without a bogey and sealed the win with a clutch 15-foot par putt on the 18th, celebrating with a fist pump.

“All throughout the crowd I kept hearing, ‘Scottie’s coming. Scottie’s coming,’” Koivun said. “I just tried to tune that out and keep playing the golf I knew I could. That is what we train for. That is a position we all strive to be in.”

The win set a new 3M Open scoring record, surpassing Lee Hodges’ 24-under 260 from 2023. Koivun earned $1,584,000 from the purse, secured a two-year PGA Tour exemption, and vaulted 124 spots in the FedEx Cup standings to 70th — the final playoff-qualifying position with two regular-season events remaining. He became the fourth rookie winner of the 2026 season.

The precocious performance marked a rapid ascent for the Chapel Hill, North Carolina native and former world No. 1 amateur, underscoring a bright future on the PGA Tour.
