Since the final round of the Masters, the issue of slow play has been heavily debated (and memed) on social media.

First, Brooks Koepka seemingly knocked Patrick Cantlay for his sluggish pace during the final round at Augusta National. A photo of Koepka and Jon Rahm waiting on a tee box became a viral meme.

Now, this week, ahead of the Zurich Classic, Matt Fitzpatrick is appearing to come after Cantlay as well.

Fitzpatrick, who won the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island last weekend, was interviewed by Sky Sports and called the pace of play on Tour a “disgrace.”

“The times need to be changed, the times need to be much less,” said Fitzpatrick, who played in Sunday’s final grouping with Cantlay and Jordan Spieth.

“That way when you’re not within those times, you can be penalized, properly punished for being slow.

“I think they give us way too much leeway to get around. You’re in a three ball, you should be around in four hours, four and a half absolute maximum.

“It’s a disgrace to get anywhere near that. You’re talking five, five and a half at some venues. It’s truly appalling.

“The problem is this conversation has gone on for years and years and years, and no one has ever done anything. It’s almost a waste of time talking about.”
