Tiger Woods arrived at the 18th hole at Quail Hollow Club on Friday needing a birdie to make the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship.
From 143 yards, Tiger hit his approach to about 13 feet, and then rolled in a little bender for birdie, which guaranteed a pair of weekend tee times.
For the day, Woods finished with three bogeys against one birdie to sign for a second-round 73, and a two-day score of 2-over par 144. He’ll enter Saturday’s third round nine strokes off the lead of Peter Malnati, who fired a 68 on Friday to take the halftime lead in Charlotte at 7-under par.
According to the PGA Tour, Woods made just one putt outside of 5 feet all day, and it came on the final hole for birdie and a made-cut.
Update: Tiger made the weekend, but faces another cut down on Saturday.
ESPN’s Bob Harig explains: “Tiger Woods made the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship with a stroke to spare. But because 87 Players made it to the weekend at 3 over par, he will face a secondary cut on Saturday. Whenever 79 or more make the cut, the PGA Tour again cuts to 70 and ties. Players who do not make it to Sunday are credited with a made cut and prize money.”
