What You Need to Know: Wilson Staff D9 Irons

The Wilson Golf design team ran hundreds of simulations on its revolutionary CAD systems, testing a series of design combinations that would deliver both distance and control.

The result is the new Wilson Staff D9 irons.

One of the most visible changes from previous Staff iron models is the reconfiguration of its multiple sole slots, or what Wilson calls ‘Power Holes.’ There are now three (3) of these Power Holes that Wilson claims will give the D9s additional flex at impact and more distance – and unlike last year’s irons they are not symmetrically placed nor are they the same size.

The slot towards the rear of the sole is larger than the other two and proportionately closer to the heel. This helps counter a tendency of all irons with flexible faces to hit the ball slightly right, due to the face having less area towards the heel.

Wilson also shifted the D9 iron’s center of gravity closer to the sole thereby improving initial trajectory.
