Wyndham Clark spent most of Sunday watching a five-shot lead disappear. Then, with the BMW Championship suddenly hanging in the balance, the two-time U.S. Open champion delivered the kind of finish that has defined his resurgent 2026 season.

Clark birdied each of the final three holes at Bellerive Country Club to pull away from Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay, closing with an even-par 70 to win the BMW Championship by three shots at 17-under 263.

It was Clark’s third PGA Tour victory of the season and sixth of his career, adding another significant trophy to a year that already includes victories at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

But this one was anything but comfortable.

Clark entered Sunday five shots clear of McIlroy and Cantlay after rounds of 64-64-65 tied the BMW Championship 54-hole scoring record. For much of the week, he had looked untouchable.

That changed quickly Sunday.

Clark bogeyed the opening hole while McIlroy made birdie, immediately cutting the advantage to three. Clark continued to struggle as the round progressed, failing to make a birdie through his first 15 holes and eventually surrendering the entire five-shot cushion.

McIlroy, playing alongside Clark, briefly pulled even on the back nine and appeared positioned to steal the tournament as Clark searched for something to stop the slide.

He finally found it at the par-3 16th.

Clark rolled in a birdie from roughly 15 feet to regain control. At the par-5 17th, the tournament swung decisively when Clark made another birdie while McIlroy stumbled to bogey. Clark then added one more birdie at the 18th, turning what had been a tense duel only minutes earlier into a three-shot victory.

“I’m really proud of myself that I didn’t let it get away,” Clark said afterward.

Cantlay supplied his own late fireworks, birdieing the final three holes for a 68 and solo second at 14 under. McIlroy shot 69 and finished another shot back at 13 under. Collin Morikawa, Chris Gotterup and Gary Woodland tied for fourth at 12 under.

For Clark, the victory further transforms what has become one of the defining seasons on the PGA Tour.

After a disappointing 2025, Clark has returned to the form that first made him a major champion.

And then some.

His victory at Shinnecock Hills in June gave him a second U.S. Open title, and Sunday at Bellerive demonstrated again his ability to survive when a tournament begins slipping away.

There were also echoes of that U.S. Open victory. At Shinnecock, Clark carried a large lead into the final round before watching it shrink under Sunday pressure. At Bellerive, he again had to steady himself after surrendering a substantial advantage.

This time, he answered by birdieing the three most important holes of the week.

The victory also gives Clark three PGA Tour titles in 2026, tying him for the most wins on Tour this season, and sends him to East Lake as one of the hottest players in golf heading into the Tour Championship.

The BMW Championship also served as the final elimination point of the FedExCup postseason. The 50-player field at Bellerive was reduced to 30 for the season finale at East Lake, with Cantlay’s runner-up finish helping secure his place in Atlanta and Woodland advancing to the Tour Championship for the first time since 2019.

But Sunday ultimately belonged to Clark.

For 15 holes, he looked vulnerable. For the final three, he looked every bit like the player who has now won two U.S. Opens and three times on the PGA TOUR this season.

Five shots became zero.

Then zero became three.

And Wyndham Clark left Bellerive with another trophy.
