The team of world players (aka the Internationals) got crushed, 5-0, in the opening four-ball matches of the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal.

Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau put points on the board first for Team USA. In the day’s leadoff match at Royal Montreal Golf Club, the American duo beat Aussie Jason Day and South Korean Byeong Hun An, 1 up.

Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley then routed Koreans Tom Kim and Sungjae Im, 3 & 2. Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa claimed the day’s third point, edging the Australian team of Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, 1 up.

Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay then beat Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and Candadian Corey Conners, 2 & 1 to go up 4-0.

Team USA’s final point came from Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark who bested South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Canuck Taylor Pendrith, 1 up. Bradley put an exclamation point on the day with a terrific putt to win the hole and match.

“It was 10 years of pent-up energy, it looks like, of not playing these,” said Bradley, referring to being shutout from team play in recent years. “I just had such a blast out there today.

“It’s really fun for me to be out here with these guys. I told Wyndham on 17 or 18 just how much I missed being out here and doing this.”

The sweep marks the third time the Americans have thrown a shutout in the opening session of the Presidents Cup. They won both times.
