CROMWELL, CT – With the third of four majors in the record books for 2025, the PGA Tour gets back in action this week with the 75th edition of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
The PGA Tour’s final Signature event of the year, and one of the most anticipated regular stops on the schedule, will once again be contested at TPC River Highlands.
The field this week in the Nutmeg State will feature most of the Tour’s top talent, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and New England’s No. 1 golfer, Keegan Bradley.

Tournament History
Running continuously since 1952, The Travelers Championship was originally called the Insurance City Open, a reference to nearby Hartford, Conn., which is colloquially known as the Insurance Capital of the World.
While that tournament name was dropped in 1967, its current name is something of a throwback to those days, as Travelers Property Casual Group is the third-largest insurance company in Connecticut.
From 1967-2003, the tournament was known as The Greater Hartford Open, with Sammy Davis Jr.’s name (he played in the event’s pro-am for a long time), even in the title for 16 years, along with corporate sponsor Canon.
While Travelers now owns the naming rights, locals still refer to it as the Greater Hartford Open. TPC River Highlands has been the tournament host since 1991.
The inaugural 1952 tournament was a four-stroke victory for Ted Kroll, a relative historical unknown who had eight career PGA Tour victories.
Notable winners of the Travelers include Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, Curtis Strange, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, and Scottie Scheffler.
Casper holds the tournament record with four victories, one ahead of Watson, who owns three – most recently in 2018.
Mickelson is the only player to successfully defend his title. He edged Billy Andrade by a shot in 2001, and claimed victory again in 2002, beating Jonathan Kaye and Davis Love III by one shot.
The Greater Hartford Open might be most well-known for when PGA of America’s Suzy Whaley qualified for the tournament (via local qualifying) in 2003, making her the first woman to make a PGA tournament field in nearly 60 years.
Whaley missed the cut by 12 strokes, but it was still an historically notable event.

Travelers Championship Field
Headlining the event at TPC River Highlands will be world No. 1, and former Travelers champion, Scottie Scheffler (3-1), who enters off a T4 at the U.S. Open and appears in top form.
Scheffler will be joined by two of the season’s three major winners: reigning PGA champ Aaron Rai (22-1) and newly-minted U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark (35-1). Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy has chosen to skip another Signature event – his third of the season.
A plethora of big names will join Scheffler and the 2026 major winners in southern New England, including Xander Schauffele (16-1), Tommy Fleetwood (16-1), Ludvig Aberg (25-1), Patrick Cantlay (25-1), and Justin Thomas (28-1).
Additional marquee names, who are top-15 betting favorites: Russell Henley (18-1), Sam Burns (12-1), Viktor Hovland (25-1), Cam Young (22-1), Shane Lowry (35-1), Jordan Spieth (35-1), and defending champ Keegan Bradley (35-1)
