Scotland native Grant Forrest secured his second DP World Tour title with a commanding four-shot victory at the inaugural Nexo Championship held at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen. The 32-year-old’s stellar performance culminated in a memorable moment when he received a surprise video call from U.S. President Donald Trump, the course owner, congratulating him on his triumph.
Forrest, now ranked world number 168, showcased his mastery of the windy conditions at the prestigious links course, finishing with an 8-under-par total. He entered the final round with a three-shot lead, which was briefly trimmed to two after England’s Todd Clements birdied the opening hole. However, Forrest responded decisively with a birdie on the fourth, while Clements stumbled with a triple-bogey eight, allowing Forrest to pull away.
Despite a double-bogey on the final hole, Forrest closed with an even-par 72, securing a $467,500 prize and an additional $60,000 bonus, including $50,000 in $NEXO Tokens and a $10,000 course record bonus for his first-round 66. This marked the first time cryptocurrency was awarded at a major golf event.

Shortly after lifting the trophy, Forrest was surprised by a FaceTime call from President Trump, who was playing at his Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. In a video shared by the DP World Tour on X, Trump praised Forrest’s performance, saying, “I watched it… he’s some player. What a round of golf. What three rounds of brilliant golf. Your swing is great, and it’s a great honor you won.”
Trump even extended an invitation for Forrest to join him for a round in the U.S., jokingly suggesting, “Get on a plane and come over here, Grant.”
Reflecting on his victory, Forrest expressed disbelief and gratitude, noting the significance of winning on home soil.
“It’s amazing, just speechless,” he said. “I think it’s the same week as I won four years ago at St Andrews, so that must say something about this week and being at home. It’s been such a tough year on the golf course. It’s just a crazy game that you can come out and do this.”
England’s Joe Dean finished second at 4-under-par, while John Parry, Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan, and Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen tied for third at 3 under. Only nine players finished under par, underscoring the course’s challenging conditions.

The Nexo Championship, part of the DP World Tour’s Closing Swing, marked the first time the tour visited Trump International Golf Links. The event followed the Senior PGA Championship on the European Legends Tour at the same venue, won by Bo Van Pelt.
With the success of the inaugural tournament and Forrest’s historic win, the Nexo Championship has set a high bar for future events. The DP World Tour now moves to the Danish Golf Championship, with the Nexo-sponsored Course Record Award continuing through the season.
Forrest’s victory, coupled with the presidential recognition, has cemented this event as a standout moment in the 2025 golfing calendar.
