In the ever-entertaining rivalry between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, LIV’s broadcast team dropped a gem of a troll during their Adelaide event.

In a clip posted on X by the official LIV Golf account, commentators Arlo White and David Feherty delivered a deadpan discussion about when LIV Golf Adelaide will be “confirmed” as golf’s fifth major, with all the sarcasm you could hope for in a 54-second video.

The segment kicks off with White posing the question: “All anyone in the world of golf is talking about at the moment is when LIV Golf Adelaide will be confirmed as the fifth major championship. David, what’s your view?”

Feherty jumps in with mock seriousness, highlighting the “gargantuan leap” from 54 to 57 players, calling it the “deepest field in championship golf.” He then praises the “quality of patrons,” comparing them favorably to the rowdy crowds at the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, and touts the event’s unique “victory shoey” — drinking beer from a golf shoe with “just a hint of bunion” — as superior to sipping from the Claret Jug.

This tongue-in-cheek bit is a clear jab at Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee, who’s been vocal about elevating the PGA Tour’s Players Championship to major status. Just days earlier, Chamblee argued that The Players “stands alone and above the other four major championships,” citing its elite field and prestige.

LIV flipped the script, using similar logic to “promote” their own event, complete with exaggerated claims that had fans cracking up (or fuming).

The post on X, captioned “The 5th major at LIV Golf Adelaide has a nice ring to it,” has racked up over 615,000 views and sparked a flurry of reactions. Many spotted the satire right away: “Epic troll,” one user commented, while another noted, “They’re making fun of Brandel and his 5th major take you muppets.”

Not everyone got the joke as some PGA Tour loyalists fired back, calling it “unserious” or proof that “you can pay people enough and they will say anything.”

This isn’t the first time LIV has poked the bear. Amid ongoing debates about golf’s fractured landscape, including Phil Mickelson’s pushback against Chamblee’s Players claim, the Adelaide quip highlights how LIV is leaning into its disruptive, fun-loving image.

Whether it’s a major or not (it’s not!), one thing’s clear: the banter in golf is heating up, and it’s only February.
