Luke Donald has agreed to captain Team Europe for a historic third successive Ryder Cup, the DP World Tour announced on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old Englishman will lead the side at the 2027 matches at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, from September 13-19, marking the 100th anniversary of the biennial competition.
Donald previously guided Europe to consecutive victories over the United States: a dominant 16½–11½ win at Marco Simone in Rome in 2023, and a hard-fought 15–13 triumph at Bethpage Black in New York in 2025.
If successful in Ireland, he would become the first captain in Ryder Cup history to secure three straight wins. This marks a rare third consecutive term for a European captain — the first since Bernard Gallacher (1991–1995). Donald joins an elite group including Dai Rees, Tony Jacklin, and Gallacher in leading three or more straight editions.

The decision follows strong support from players, with chants of “Two more years!” echoing after the Bethpage victory.
Donald, a four-time Ryder Cup player with an impeccable record (Europe won every time he played), has been praised for his leadership and team-building.
“It’s a massive commitment, but the chance to make history and continue Europe’s momentum is exciting,” Donald said in statements following the announcement. He emphasized focusing on preparation rather than the historic three-peat pressure.
Europe has not lost a home Ryder Cup since 1993, adding extra motivation for the Irish venue. Donald’s reappointment signals continuity for a team that has thrived under his guidance.
The golf world now turns its eyes to Adare Manor, where Donald aims to etch his name deeper into Ryder Cup lore.
