Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and England’s Tyrrell Hatton have officially clinched automatic qualification for Team Europe’s 2025 Ryder Cup squad, set to defend the trophy at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26-28. The duo joins Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood as confirmed members of captain Luke Donald’s 12-man team.
MacIntyre, 29, sealed his second Ryder Cup appearance with a runner-up finish to Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship on Sunday. His 72-hole total of 13-under 267, highlighted by a final-round 73, propelled him to second place in the European Ryder Cup rankings with 1,709.94 points, trailing only McIlroy’s 3,489.21.
The Scot’s season included a T7 at The Open Championship and a runner-up at the 2025 U.S. Open, showcasing the consistency that secured his spot.
“Bob’s big performances this year, especially in the States, show his growth,” Donald said. “His undefeated record in Rome last year will bring huge value to New York.”
MacIntyre, who went 2-0-1 as a rookie in 2023, expressed pride in his achievement: “Making the team again, especially automatically, is a dream come true.”
Hatton, 33, locked in his fourth consecutive Ryder Cup berth, holding firm at fifth in the rankings with 1,279.33 points. His season featured victories at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and Hero Dubai Desert Classic, plus a T4 at the 2025 U.S. Open and a runner-up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Despite limited point-earning opportunities due to his LIV Golf affiliation, Hatton’s steady performances in majors and DP World Tour events proved sufficient.
“Tyrrell’s passion and consistency are unmatched,” Donald noted. “His experience will be crucial on a tough away course like Bethpage.”
Hatton, who went 3-0-1 in 2023, including a 3&2 singles win over Brian Harman, aims for his first Ryder Cup victory on U.S. soil.
“Bob and Tyrrell are two great characters and golfers for Team Europe,” Donald posted on X. “The team is shaping up nicely.”
With five of the six automatic spots now secured, the final berth hinges on the Betfred British Masters, the last qualifying event concluding August 24 at The Belfry.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry currently holds the sixth position with 1,275.51 points, but Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard (1,261.91 points) could overtake him with a T29 or better finish this week.
Lowry, who has relied on captain’s picks in his two prior Ryder Cup appearances, has no further events to bolster his points.
“It’s tight, but Shane’s experience and Rasmus’s form make it an exciting finish,” Donald said.
If Lowry doesn’t clinch an automatic spot, the six captain’s picks are all but guaranteed to be Lowry, Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Sepp Straka, and Viktor Hovland.
