The iconic L.A.B. DF3 putter that delivered J.J. Spaun’s unforgettable 64-foot walk-off birdie to claim the 2025 U.S. Open title isn’t heading to retirement just yet.
At the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club on Wednesday, the 2025 U.S. Open champ was asked if the USGA ever asked him for a meaningful club from his victory to keep for its archives.
Spaun had a straightforward response: “Unfortunately, I can’t. That thing is not ready to be retired, especially after that putt.”
Instead, the 2025 champ graciously offered up his Titleist GT3 driver, the club he used to boldly drive the green on the pivotal 17th hole in the final round, setting up the birdie that gave him the lead heading into the dramatic finish at Oakmont. The USGA happily accepted the “second-most valuable” club in Spaun’s winning arsenal.

As Spaun continues to wield the putter that changed his career, the driver now takes its place in the archives, a fitting nod to the grit and smart play that delivered his breakthrough major victory.
