Hometown favorite Sandy Lyle – the 1985 Champion Golfer of the year – opened the 147th Open Championship with a tee shot at 6:35 am, and the day ended with the final group of Matt Jones, Thomas Curtis, and Bronson Burgoon walking off the 18th green about 10 hours later. In between, Kevin Kisner rode a hot putter to a low-round 66 to secure the pole position after 18 holes.
