A total of 156 golfers will tee it up this week for the 121st edition of the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

The field is made up of players who gain entry through various qualifying events and/or those who are exempt by the way of performance criteria.

The performance exemption criteria includes recent tournament champions and top positioning in the Official World Golf Rankings, among other categories.

For instance, world Nos. 1 and 2, Dustin Johnson (1,2,5,10,11,15) and Justin Thomas (2,6,8,10,11,15), fell under six qualification buckets, while Bryson DeChambeau (1,2,10,11,15) and Rory McIlroy (1,2,8,10,15) qualified through five categories.
