On Sunday at TPC San Antonio, J.J. Spaun carded 69 to claim a one-shot victory at the 2022 Valero Texas Open.
Spaun got off to a horrible start in his final round at the venerable Oaks course, carding a double bogey on the opening hole. But the San Diego State product recovered nicely with three birdies on Nos. 6, 8, and 9. He added two more gains on Nos. 11 and 14 to reach 13 under par, one clear of Matt Jones (66) and Matt Kuchar (69).
For securing his maiden PGA Tour title, Spaun earned $1,548,000 and 500 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 10 in points and 16th in money. He also picked up 38 Official World Golf Ranking points and will move to No. 103 (from 242) – a career best position.
For finishing runners-up, Jones and Kuchar each earned $765,400 and 245 FedExCup points. They also each picked up 19 OWGR points.
