The LIV Golf Format
The LIV Golf League 2023 features 12 teams comprised of four players competing over a 14-event schedule, with players and teams competing simultaneously for both points and prize money.
Tournaments consist of 54-hole stroke play, no cuts and shotgun starts, ensuring a faster and more exciting pace of play.
Captains: Each team has a captain while members of the four-player teams, including the captain, participate in the three-day tournament.
Individual Winner: The player with the lowest 54-hole stroke play total is the winner. At the season’s end, the player with the most ranking points will be named the season’s Individual Champion.
Team Competition: After each round, the best three scores count to produce a team score. The lowest overall team score after 54 holes is the team winner. The final event of the season is the team championship.
LIV Golf DC Field Notes
- Brooks Koepka will make his first start after winning the 2023 PGA Championship. It was the Smash GC captain’s fifth major victory in his career and third PGA Championship title.
- 4Aces GC Captain Dustin Johnson defeated Ripper GC Captain Cameron Smith and Stinger GC’s Branden Grace with a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the individual title in Tulsa.
- Johnson, last year’s Individual Champion, became the third golfer to win multiple LIV Golf events, joining Brooks Koepka and Talor Gooch with two each.
- Grace and the all-South African Stinger GC, captained by Louis Oosthuizen, claimed the team title by one shot over the 4Aces. It was Stinger’s first win of the season and second overall after winning the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series event in London in 2022.
- Along with Koepka, the other 15 LIV Golf League members who played in last week’s PGA Championship will be in the 48-man field. That includes Crushers GC Captain Bryson DeChambeau, who finished T4, and Ripper GC Captain Cameron Smith, who finished T9.

LIV Golf DC Course
The links-style Championship Course, the venue for LIV Golf DC, was built specifically for world-class tournament golf.
Utilizing holes on two existing courses created by famed architects Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills, the layout was rerouted and remodeled by Fazio’s nephew Tommy Fazio to better utilize frontage along the Potomac River.
The Loudoun County layout in Northern Virginia is the only course in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia with vast Potomac River frontage.
- Upon its debut in 2016, it was ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top three New Golf Courses.
- The Championship Course was the site for the Senior PGA Championship in 2017.
- The par-3 210-yard 15th is the course’s signature hole and has a new tee box.
- The par-4 310-yard ninth will be a potentially drivable hole.

Next Stop: LIV Golf Valderrama
Following the U.S. Open, the season’s third major, LIV Golf will play for the first time in continental Europe as the breakaway league arrives at Real Club Valderrama, a spectacular stage for three days of elite tour golf.
For two LIV Golf stars, it will bring back memories of a famous occasion. This was the venue for the 1997 Ryder Cup, at which a European team featuring first-timer Lee Westwood narrowly defeated a USA line-up that included Phil Mickelson.
The course is also a favorite of Sergio Garcia, who won the Andalucia Masters there in 2011 and, following a five-year hiatus for the tournament, clinched the 2017 and 2018 titles to record a stunning three-peat.
And the Spaniard is likely to be the biggest draw of the event – with European fans desperate for him to claim a fourth crown at the famous course
