AUGUSTA, Ga. -The Masters Tournament, held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, is one of the most prestigious events in professional golf.

The 2024 Masters, April 11-14, was the 88th edition of the iconic tournament and the first of the season’s four major golf championships.

The first “Augusta National Invitation Tournament”, as the Masters was originally known, began on March 22, 1934, won by Horton Smith, who took the first prize of $1,500. The ‘Masters’ name was adopted in 1939.

This year’s Masters had a first-round field of 89 golfers and a total purse of $20 million. The winner received $3,600,000 in prize money, in addition to a priceless green jacket and trophy.

Morning tee times were pushed back 2.5 hours after heavy rain fell overnight and into the morning. The sun made its return around mid-morning, bringing along with it 15-20mph winds.

Bryson DeChambeau was the first-round leader with a 7-under 65 as part of the delayed morning wave. DeChambeau finished with 8 birdies and only one bogey.

Scottie Scheffler was one back after a bogey-free 66, highlighted by four birdies in a five-hole stretch (Nos. 12, 13, 15 and 16) on the back to reach 6 under.

Play was suspended at 7:51 p.m. ET with 27 golfers in the 89-man field still on the course.

Max Homa finished his final five holes from his first round on Friday morning, posting a 66. Homa carded seven birdies to go along with a pair of bogeys on Nos. 12 and 18.

Tiger Woods finished 1-over 73 – a solid round considering he was in Thursday’s late wave and had to finish his final five holes on Friday morning with little time to reset and prep his 48-year-old damaged body.

On “moving day” at Augusta National, six golfers, at one point or another, held at least a share of the lead of the Masters.

After the dust settled, though, it was Scottie Scheffler (71) who was in the 54-hole pole position at 7 under.

Scheffler’s birdie on the 18th hole secured the top spot on the leaderboard, one clear of Collin Morikawa who shot a second-best round of 69 to reach 6 under. Only Chris Kirk (68) posted a better third round.

Max Homa was in third place at 5 under after a 73, one ahead of Ludvig Aberg (70) at 4-under. Bryson DeChambeau (75) rounded out the top-5 players on the leaderboard.

Scottie Scheffler made the turn at 9 under and would need an almost flawless finish to maintain that position.

The trio of Max Homa, Ludvig Aberg, and Collin Morikawa each took a turn challenging Scheffler for that special moment in time.

The opportunity to have Jon Rahm hand the Green Jacket back to him, after he handed it to Jon Rahm last year, surely played heavily in Scheffler’s thoughts.

On a beautiful warm afternoon in Augusta, Scheffler reeled off three birdies in a four-hole span (Nos. 13, 14 and 16) to reach 11 under and pull away from the chasing pack.

Scheffler once again showed why he’s the best golfer in the world by totally dominating the final stretch of historic holes to claim his second Masters title in three years.

Pos-Player-Score (Final Round)
1. Scottie Scheffler -11 (-4)
2. Ludvig Aberg -7 (-3)
3. Tommy Fleetwood -4 (-3)

3. Collin Morikawa -4 (+2)
