The PGA Tour has announced that Mike Weir will captain the International team for the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

The 2003 Masters winner, who was assistant captain in 2017, 2019 and 2022, becomes the first Canadian to serves as team captain.

Making his debut in 2000, Weir became the first Canadian to play in the Presidents Cup matches. He’d go on to be part of five teams in the 2000 decade.

The 52-year-old Ontario native is an eight-time PGA tour winner. He now plays on the tour’s senior circuit, where he owns a single title.

Prospects for Weir’s team include Canadians Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes, Adam Svensson and Adam Hadwin.
