HISTORY

The Chubb Classic debuted in 1988 as the Aetna Challenge with a $300,000 purse. The first three editions were played at The Club at Pelican Bay in the Naples area.
The legendary Gary Player won the inaugural edition with Gene Littler (1989) and Lee Trevino (1990) taking the final two titles at Pelican Bay. Trevino won it again in 1991 at The Vineyards Golf and Country Club.
Other marquee names who’ve been crowned Chubb Classic champion include Hale Irwin, Al Geiberger, Lanny Wadkins, Steve Stricker, Fred Couples, Lee Janzen and five-time winner Bernhard Langer.
The tournament has been played at 12 different venues with the Tiburón Golf Club hosting since 2021.
There were five different title sponsors in its first 11 editions. But since 1999 there have been only two title names: ACE Group (1999-2015) and Chubb (2016-present) – and really only one since Chubb was purchased by ACE which then used the new brand for sponsorship purposes.
The purse for 2025 is $1.8 million, with a winner’s share of $270,000.

THE CHUBB CLASSIC FIELD

The field at Tiburón Golf Club is headlined by five-time champion Bernhard Langer. The German star picked up his fifth Chubb Classic trophy in 2023 but was unable to defend his back-to-back titles due to an injury. He returns in 2025 hoping to match Hale Irwin for the most wins at one tournament on the Champions Tour. (Irwin won the Turtle Bay Championship six times.)
Some of the other marquee names in Florida include defending champion Stephen Ames and two-time Chubb winner Fred Couples, alongside Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, and Justin Leonard, among others.
