For the 2025 Masters Tournament, CBS Sports has announced an expansion of its coverage in partnership with Augusta National Golf Club. Here are the key details:

Expanded Live Coverage:
  • Total Hours: CBS and Paramount+ will provide 14 total hours of weekend coverage. This marks an increase from previous years, focusing on the third and fourth rounds.
  • Saturday Coverage: The CBS Television Network and Paramount+ will air the tournament live from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 12. This is an increase of one hour compared to previous years for the third round.
  • Sunday Coverage: Similarly, on Sunday, April 13, live coverage will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET.
  • Paramount+ Additional Coverage: Paramount+ will add two hours of exclusive live coverage on both Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET, preceding the CBS broadcast. This is specifically for viewers who have access to Paramount+.
  • Commercial/Ad Time: The amount of commercial time per hour will remain unchanged at four minutes, ensuring that the expanded coverage does not lead to more interruptions for viewers.

Statement from Augusta National:
  • Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, highlighted the long-standing relationship with CBS Sports, which has been in place for nearly 70 years. He expressed pleasure in extending the tournament’s weekend coverage to deliver more live golf for Masters fans.
Relevance and Impact:
  • CBS Roots: CBS has televised the Masters in the United States every year since 1956, when it used just six cameras and covered only the final four holes.

  • Growing Demand: This expansion aims to cater to the growing demand for more live sports content, especially for an event as prestigious and popular as the Masters Tournament. It allows fans greater access to see more of the tournament’s crucial final rounds.
  • Leverage Digital: The additional coverage on Paramount+ is part of CBS Sports’ strategy to leverage digital platforms to enhance viewer experience, offering more opportunities for fans to follow the action closely.
  • Maintain Tradition: This move is also indicative of the Masters’ ongoing effort to evolve its broadcasting approach while maintaining its traditional allure, adapting to modern viewing habits without altering the tournament’s iconic nature.
