Thomas Detry posted a final-round 65 at TPC Scottsdale to claim a seven-stroke victory at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open.
Following a Friday round of 64, the Belgium native grabbed the pole position and stayed out front the rest of the way, posting weekend rounds of 65 to capture his first PGA Tour title.
Detry made it look easy on Sunday, navigating the difficult desert course with the finesse and determination of a seasoned veteran. He finished Sunday’s finale with a flourish, reeling off birdies on the final four holes, producing a raucous reaction from the appreciative crowd.
“Incredible. Incredible,” said Detry who becomes the first Belgium native to win a PGA Tour event. “I felt nervous yesterday morning, and last night didn’t sleep great. I woke up this morning early, 4:00 a.m., couldn’t fall back asleep.
“But then deep inside of me, I kind of really trusted myself. I felt like I’ve been doing a lot of really good things in the past to put myself in that position, and I felt like I was kind of ready to win.
“So deep inside, I was kind of — yeah, this one nobody was going to take it away from me.”
Daniel Berger (67) and Michael Kim (67) tied for second on 17 under. Berger made things interesting when he birdied 12 and 13 to get within three but a bogey on the par 3 16th, coupled with Detry’s late birdie binge, ended any and all hope.
“Well, I played really well, but Tom (Detry) just lit it up. I mean, I felt like every-time I made a birdie he made one back there was just no mistakes he played flawlessly.” said Berger.
“He deserved to win this week, but it was nice to get back in there and feel those feelings and hit some good shots when I needed to and hang in there as long as I could.”
Christiaan Bezuidenhout (66) and Jordan Spieth (68) tied for fourth on 16 under.
For his maiden PGA Tour win, Detry grabbed a check for $1.656 million, and punched his first ticket to the Masters.
