The course at CordeValle features multiple tees and approach angles for varying degrees of difficulty. From the championship tips, the course plays at 7,360. For the U.S. Women’s Open, the tees will be set between the Blue (6,810) and the Green (6,440), giving the best women golfers a track of 6,762 yards to navigate.
4. History
Martin Murphy is the founding father of CordeValle. In fact the entire town is named after him, sort of. Martin, an Irish immigrant and devout Catholic, traveled with his wife, three sons and two daughters from Iowa to California on the first wagon train to cross the rugged Sierra Nevada mountain range. Upon his arrival Martin purchased a 9,000-acre parcel of Rancho San Francisco de las Llagas, and eventually named the area San Martin, in honor of his patron saint, Martin.
