Lee Westwood Fires Caddie, Ending 10-Year Partnership

Lee Westwood won last week for the first time in over four years. He also won without his regular caddie, and instead used his girlfriend, Helen Storey – who caddied for him once before at the Made in Denmark event, where he finished T2.

Afterwards, Westwood said, “She’s caddied twice for me this year and we lost in a playoff in Denmark and we’ve won here.

“Have to have a bit of a rethink, not least about who caddies for me, but our percentages.”

Well, the decision was seemingly a no-brainer, because Westwood’s caddie Billy Foster was fired on Monday, ending a 10-year run with the Englishman.

“Mine and Billy’s working relationship had got to a point where neither of us were gaining anything from it and we weren’t doing each other any good,” Westwood said Tuesday at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

“I sat him down and said, ‘This is no good, I’m playing better when you’re not there than when you are there, so something’s obviously not working.’ He said to me, ‘Well, I can’t caddie for you how I want to caddie for you.'”

Foster will work with Matthew Fitzpatrick this week in Dubai, while Westwood is using Glen Murray, who was on the bag with Sergio Garcia when the Spaniard won the Masters.
