Englishman Jordan Smith opened with a 6-under 66 and shares the lead with Spain’s Adrian Otaegui after the first round of the DP World Tour Championship.

Smith’s countryman Danny Willett was one further back, alongside defending champion Jon Rahm, also of Spain. The chasing duo were 5 under par.

A logjam of five players were then 4 under par headlined by Race to Dubai leader Francesco Molinari of Italy.

Tommy Fleetwood – the only player in the field who can catch Molinari for the RTD title, was one off the pace of his Ryder Cup teammate at 3 under, alongside a group of 11 other players, including Rory McIlroy, Alex Noren, and Patrick Reed, among others.
