According to the PGA of America, LIV Golf members, who qualify for the 2023 PGA Championship, will be permitted to tee it up.
The tournament’s governing body released its qualifying conditions for this year’s championship—which will be contested at Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y., May 18-21.
“Our decisions are always based on what’s in the best interest of the PGA of America and conducting the best Championship possible,” said Seth Waugh, PGA of America’s CEO.
“Sadly, the current division in the professional game is not good for the sport or the future of the game.
“We hope there might be some resolution soon. In the meantime, as always, our focus will be on our mission to grow the game and improve the lives of our members, who work so hard to impact millions of lives every day.”
Earlier this week, the R&A released a similar announcement relative to the British Open at Royal Liverpool.
LIV Golf members currently exempt through preexisting categories include recent major champions Cameron Smith (2022 British Open), Phil Mickelson (2021 PGA), Dustin Johnson (2020 Masters), Bryson DeChambeau (2020 U.S. Open), Brooks Koepka (2019 PGA), and Patrick Reed (2018 Masters); as well as Mito Pereira and Brendan Steele (top 15 finishers in last year’s PGA); and Thomas Pieters, Joaquin Niemann and Abraham Ancer (current world ranking position), among others.
The PGA Championship field will include 156 players, and the final list will be set on May 10.
