On Sunday, Cameron Young secured his long-awaited first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship, delivering a commanding performance at Sedgefield Country Club.

The 28-year-old New York native finished at 22-under 258, tying the tournament scoring record and winning by a commanding six strokes, marking him as the 1,000th unique winner in PGA Tour history.

Young, who entered the week with seven career runner-up finishes, left no doubt in his breakthrough victory. After a bogey on the opening hole of the final round, he responded with five consecutive birdies, building a nine-shot lead that ensured the title was his.

The Wak Forest alum’s final-round 2-under 68 capped a stellar week where he led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting and ranked second in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, aided by a switch to a new Titleist Pro V1x prototype golf ball.

“I’ve been waiting for it for a while,” Young said, visibly emotional. “I never thought I’d be that emotional about it, but it’s the end of my fourth season. I’ve had my chances, and I wasn’t going to let it get away from me.”

The victory, Young’s 94th PGA Tour start, earned him 500 FedExCup points, $1.476 million, and a jump to 16th in the FedExCup standings, securing his spot in the Tour Championship. It also bolstered his case for a captain’s pick on the U.S. Ryder Cup team for the upcoming matches at Bethpage Black, where Young won the 2017 New York State Open as the first amateur to claim the title.

“That team is a goal of many of us,” Young said, eyeing the September event. Mac Meissner finished second at 16-under, earning $893,800 and climbing to 86th in the FedExCup standings, while Mark Hubbard and Alex Noren tied for third at 15-under. Defending champion Aaron Rai, along with Auburn junior Jackson Koivun and Chris Kirk tied for fifth at 14-under, with Kirk’s result moving him into the top 70 for the FedExCup Playoffs.

The Wyndham Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season, saw intense drama for playoff spots, with Matti Schmid securing the last position at No. 70 after a clutch three-birdie finish.

Young’s dominant display erased the narrative of being one of the best players without a PGA Tour win, a label he carried since his 2022 Rookie of the Year season.

Fellow Wake Forest alum Webb Simpson praised his potential, saying, “He’s long, now 10th in putting this year. He’ll be a guy we’re talking about for 10 or 15 years.”

With exemptions into the 2026 Sentry, THE PLAYERS Championship, and PGA Championship, Young’s breakthrough sets the stage for a promising postseason and beyond.
