John Daly, the two-time major champion known for his booming drives, mullet hairstyle, and unfiltered personality, has been named the 2026 Ambassador of Golf.
The honor, presented by the Northern Ohio Golf Charities & Foundation, recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on the game through their play, personality, and contributions to the community.
Daly will receive the award during the Kaulig Companies Championship on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. The celebration is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, where fans can expect dinner, entertainment, and an up-close conversation with the golf icon.
“John Daly has had an extraordinary impact on the game of golf, both on and off the course,” the organizers stated in a press release.
“His fearless play, larger-than-life personality, and commitment to giving back make him a perfect fit for the Ambassador of Golf Award.”
Daly, who famously won the 1991 PGA Championship as a ninth alternate and the 1995 Open Championship, has long been a fan favorite for his everyman approach to the sport. Whether gripping it and ripping it or engaging with crowds, he’s drawn countless new fans to golf over the decades.
Past recipients of the award include notable figures like three former U.S. presidents, highlighting its prestige in promoting the game.
Daly’s selection feels fitting for a player who’s always embodied golf’s fun, accessible side — proving that ambassadors come in all styles, from tailored blazers to loud pants and bigger-than-life personalities.
