Ludvig Aberg turned heads at TPC Sawgrass on Friday, capping a scorching front nine with a stunning chip-in eagle from the greenside bunker on the par-5 ninth hole to card a 7-under 29 during the second round of The Players Championship.

The 26-year-old Swede, who started the day at 3-under after an opening 69, exploded out of the gates with an eagle on the par-5 second – reaching the green in two and draining a 15-footer – followed by birdies on Nos. 1, 3, and 4. His flawless play continued with pars through the middle before the dramatic finish at nine, where his third shot from the sand trap popped out softly, tracked straight toward the pin, and dropped in for his second eagle of the nine.

The crowd erupted as Aberg flashed a knowing smile, bumping him to 10-under overall and into a tie for the lead with Xander Schauffele.

Aberg’s 29 tied the front-nine scoring record at the Stadium Course, making him just the third player in tournament history to achieve the feat. His bogey-free outward half included eagles on both par-5s (Nos. 2 and 9), birdies on a par-4 (No. 1), par-3 (No. 3), and another par-4 (No. 4), showcasing his precision and short-game prowess.

Coming off a T3 finish at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, Aberg entered The Players as a betting favorite and has lived up to the hype so far.

“It’s special to do it here at Sawgrass,” Aberg said post-round.
