PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Ludvig Aberg solidified his status as the man to beat at the 2026 Players Championship, carrying a three-shot lead into Sunday’s final round after a steady third-round performance at TPC Sawgrass.

The 26-year-old Swede, who stormed into contention with a blistering 9-under 63 in the second round to grab the 36-hole lead, posted a 1-under 71 on Saturday. That moved him to 13-under 203 for the tournament, extending his advantage despite a few late stumbles.

Aberg entered “moving day” with a two-shot cushion over Xander Schauffele but navigated the Stadium Course effectively as conditions softened and scores came easier for much of the field. He overcame a shaky start, found his rhythm around the turn, and played his final 10 holes in 2 under to secure the 54-hole lead.

A three-putt bogey on the iconic 18th hole after a strong drive and approach prevented an even larger margin, but Aberg still heads into the finale comfortably ahead.

Michael Thorbjornsen climbed into solo second at 10-under with a strong 5-under 67, capitalizing on the more forgiving day to close the gap slightly.

Cameron Young sits third at 9-under after an even-par 72, while Justin Thomas (72), Brian Harman (69) and others lurk further back at 8-under. Early challengers like Schauffele failed to mount a serious charge, allowing Aberg to maintain control.

The Swede’s weekend surge has been built on precision off the tee and composure under pressure at the PGA Tour’s flagship event. After opening with a solid 3-under 69 in tougher morning conditions Thursday, Aberg’s 63 on Friday (featuring two eagles, including a chip-in on No. 9 and a front-nine 29) marked one of the standout rounds of the year.

Saturday’s round included birdies that regained breathing room, such as one at No. 9 to restore a three-shot edge at points. Despite not going as low as some in the field, Aberg’s consistency has him in prime position for what would be his most prestigious victory yet, potentially his third PGA Tour win and first at this caliber.

The Players Championship concludes Sunday, with Aberg eyeing a breakthrough triumph on one of golf’s toughest tests.
