SHANGHAI, China — Bernd Wiesberger ended a five-year winless drought on the DP World Tour with a commanding final-round performance to capture the 2026 Volvo China Open title at Enhance Anting Golf Club on Sunday.

The 40-year-old Austrian signed for a bogey-free final round of 4-under 67, overcoming a three-shot deficit at the turn to finish at 19-under for the tournament, three clear of Spain’s Adrian Otaegui, who started the day with the lead but faltered on the back nine.

Wiesberger, starting the day one back of Otaegui, mounted a stirring comeback on the homeward nine, making birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 to reach 19-under.

Meanwhile, Otaegui, who had led by as many as three shots early on the back nine, dropped shots on the 12th and 16th before carding a costly double-bogey seven on the par-5 18th. His closing 71 left him at 16-under par.

Mikael Lindberg of Sweden finished third at 14-under after a final-round 67, while Shaun Norris was alone in fourth at 13-under.

The win was Wiesberger’s ninth on the European tour, and his first since the 2021 Made in Himmerland event in Denmark — a victory that had previously helped secure his spot on the European Ryder Cup team at Whistling Straits. The former world No. 21 spent two seasons on LIV Golf tour, as a member of Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC, before losing his status at the end of 2023.

In an emotional post-round interview, Wiesberger reflected on the challenges of the past few years. “I played my heart out today,” he said, describing the long wait as difficult but rewarding.

The victory earned Wiesberger $467,500 and propelled him 54 spots up the DP World Tour Race to Dubai standings to 16th place. He jumped 156 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings, from 370 to No. 214.

The Volvo China Open, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and China Golf Tour, continues to serve as a key international event on the schedule, drawing strong fields to Shanghai. Wiesberger’s resilient performance, featuring precise iron play and clutch putting on the closing holes, underscored his return to form.
