Zach Johnson closed with a bogey-free 7-under 65 on Sunday to win the inaugural Portugal Invitational, claiming his fourth PGA Tour Champions victory of the season and edging longtime friend Stewart Cink by two strokes.
Johnson finished at 19-under 197 at The Els Club Vilamoura, a course redesigned by tournament host Ernie Els in Portugal’s Algarve region. Cink carded a final-round 68 to finish at 17-under 199, while Ireland’s Pádraig Harrington shot 70 and settled for solo third at 15-under 201. Tim O’Neal was fourth at 13-under, with Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Mikael Lundberg tied for fifth at 12-under.
The $3 million event marked the first officially sanctioned PGA Tour Champions tournament in Portugal. Johnson, who turned 50 in February 2026, opened the week with a first-round 64 to take the early lead before a second-round 68 left him one stroke behind overnight co-leaders Cink, Harrington, and Rory Sabbatini heading into Sunday. He erased the deficit immediately, birdieing his first three holes and adding four additional birdies on Nos. 7, 9, 11 and 18.
“I got off to the dream start and I really felt like the putt going in on seven was key,” Johnson said. He later noted his strong team support and praised the venue: “Thank you to Ernie Els — the Els Club is an amazing facility, an amazing golf course. I’m very lucky.”
The win pulled Johnson even with Cink at four victories apiece this season on the senior circuit, though Cink retained the lead in the season-long money race and Charles Schwab Cup standings. Johnson’s earlier 2026 titles included the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational (his Champions debut), the Principal Charity Classic and the Kaulig Companies Championship.
