Billy and Scottie. That’s your championship match at Austin Country Club for the 2021 WGC-Dell Match Play, as Billy Horschel and Scottie Scheffler will face off for the title of World Match Play Champion, and a first-place prize of $1,820,000. The loser gets $1,150,000.
Horschel, the 34th ranked golfer in the world, defeated Frenchman Victor Perez 3 & 2. The 34-year old Florida product battled Perez for much of the early going, but after a win on the 7th hole, it was all Horschel, as he won or halved every hole but one over the final 10.
Scheffler, meanwhile, had a somewhat bigger lift to defeat match-play savant Matt Kuchar – although in reality, the young Texan was never in much trouble. After going 1-up on the 2nd hole, Scheffler never found himself down in the match. He won seven holes to Kuchar’s three.
With each player already guaranteed a $600,000 payday and 22.8 world-ranking points, Perez and Kuchar will go head to head in the consolation match, with the winner getting an extra $140,000 and eight (8) extra OWGR points.
