Bryson DeChambeau opened with a 6-under 66 at Green Eagle Golf Courses and will take a one-shot lead into Friday’s second round of the Porsche European Open.
The American finished his first day in Hamburg Germany with seven birdies against one bogey to sign for the low-round 66.
“It was fun to get out there and shoot a good score on the European Tour,” said DeChambeau.
“I haven’t done that yet out here so I’m very pleased with it and ready to get after it tomorrow.”
One shot back was a foursome including Germany’s Benedict Staben and French trio Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Joel Stalter and Romain Wattel.
Overall some 40 players are within four strokes of the lead.
Headliners Paul Casey (69) and Patrick Reed (70) remained in the hunt. Pat Perez has some work to do following a 2-over 74.
