Caroline Hedwall produced a sizzling round of 64 on Friday, and will enter the weekend at the 2021 Scandinavian Mixed Hosted by Henrik & Annika with the solo lead on 13 under par.
The Swede, who began her second round on Vallda’s back-nine, carded three birdies and an eagle to turn on 5-under 31. After her lone dropped shot (No. 2), Hedwall reeled off two more birdies and another eagle in a four-hole span (Nos. 3, 4, and 6) to set the halftime mark on 13 under.
“I was a bit lucky out there today,” said Hedwall, who’s been a fixture on Europe’s Solheim Cup teams. “I made two eagles and made a bunker shot – it was very enjoyable.
“If you look at the leaderboard, it looks like they have set it up pretty fair, but it’s hard to judge. I think looking at the mix of the players on the leaderboard, I think they have done a good job because it’s obviously tough.
“It is good being back in Sweden and I’m just going to try and enjoy myself.”
One back was Joost Luiten, who was paired with Hedwall in the opening two rounds. The Dutchman shot a bogey-free 65 to reach 12-under par following a second-consecutive clean round.
South African Darren Fitchard (67) and England’s Steven Brown (68) were next at T3 on 11 under.
One further back at 10 under was Finn Kalle Samooja (69), Slovenia’s Pia Babnik (66), and Aussie Stephanie Kyriacou (66).
