The opening round of the Zurich Classic was suspended around noon-time (est) due to rain and lightning. When the horn blew, exactly half the field was on the course, while the latter 40 groups had yet to tee off.
The lightly-regarded team of Joel Dahmen and Brandon Harkins were the leaders at 6-under par. The twosome started the day on the back-nine at TPC Louisiana, and made the turn in 30, highlighted by six birdies, including a hat trick out of the gate.
Three pairings were just one off the pace at 5-under par, including the teams of Danny Lee – Sung Kang, Martin Laird – Nick Taylor, and Brice Garnett – Chesson Hadley.
One further back were six more teams, including three of the betting favorites: Bubba Watson – J.B. Holmes, Jason Day – Adam Scott, and Kevin Kisner – Scott Brown.
