After learning he was paired with Phil Mickelson in the opening two rounds of the Wells Fargo Championship, Joel Dahmen posted to the big tech socials:

“Tomorrow I get to check off another bucket list item by playing with Phil Mickelson. I’ve been trying to get a game with him for 6 months but I think he’s scared of my hellacious seeds. See you on the tee, Phil!”

Mickelson replied: “Words cannot express my excitement and jubilation to finally be paired with Joel “DaMan” Dahmen. ?’s will be hit and ?”s will be made. Lanto is ironing his clothes now after hitting the gym. It’s about to rain again in Charlotte ?

Dahmen then zinged back with a shot at Phil’s senior status: “Im excited to see how my game stacks up against the best of the Champions Tour”

In the end, Phil shot 7-under 64 and leads the tournament by two strokes. It’s Mickelson’s first lead in nearly a year.

Dahmen, though, was pretty impressive himself, carding a 3-under 68 to sit T10.

“I mean, I love the banter. I think it’s funny and it kept the atmosphere in our group really light,” said Phil, when asked if Dahmen ‘poked the bear.’

“We laughed a bunch. We had some fun things to talk about, but we were laughing even before we teed off. I like how he’s able to laugh at ourselves and have fun with the game of golf and not take it too serious.

“Lanto’s (Griffin) the same way, so we had a really fun group.”

The PGA Tour curated the story on the gram, and added some video highlights (swipe to navigate).
