Emiliano Grillo posted a final-round 68 and then edged Adam Schenk (72) in a playoff to win the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Grillo and Schenk finished on 8-under 272, one better than Harry Hall (73) and Scottie Scheffler (67).
It was the 30-year-old Argentinian’s second career PGA Tour title, and his first since his rookie campaign (2015-16).
“It feels great. The wait was definitely worth it. It was long, but it was worth it,” said Grillo. “Happy to be champion in Colonial. I get to put my name right next to Roberto De Vicenzo, which is 40, 50 years ago. I’m excited.
“I said it a few times that I wasn’t going to retire without winning here, and I’m lucky that I got it done in the last year before the renovations. I’m excited. I’m happy. That’s the way I can put it.”
With the victory, Grillo earned a $1,566,000 payday and 500 FedEx Cup points.
Paul Haley shot a 67 to grab the solo fifth spot on 6 under, one clear of a three-player logjam at T6, which included Rickie Fowler (67), Michael Kim (67) and Sam Burns (68).
