Sami Valimaki (69) edged Jorge Campillo (70) in a playoff to claim victory at the Qatar Masters on Sunday.

Valimaki entered the final round a shot back of 54-hole leader Campillo but caught the Spaniard on the back nine to take the lead with a birdie on the par-3 17th. Campillo, though, birdied the par-5 18th to force a playoff with the Finn. The two were deadlocked on 18 under.

After a par by Campillo, Valimaki, who birdied, secured his first title since the 2020 Oman Open, which he also won in overtime.

The win was Valimaki’s second of his European tour career and the 11th for a Finnish golfer.

“It’s hard to talk. It’s been a long journey and feels great,” said Valimaki. “I work so hard and I feel like I’ve earned it a couple of times, but it hasn’t come my way.

“That’s why it feels so amazing.”

Scott Jamieson and Nacho Elvira were T3 on 16 under.

Press release from European Tour was used to produce report.
